विराट नाम सुनके ही हम सबको गर्व महसूस होता है ऐसे विराट का जन्म 5 नवंबर 1988 को दिल्ली में हुआ। उनकी फैमिली एक पंजाबी फॅमिली थी। उनके पिता एक वकील थे, और उनकी माँ एक हाउसवाइफ थी।विराट को एक बड़ा भाई विकास और बड़ी बहन भावना भी थी। विराट अपने पापा के बहुत करीब थे।

महज 3 साल के उम्र में विराट को क्रिकेट खेलना पसंद हो था। विराट तभी से बैट चलना सिख गए थे। उनको क्रिकेट का जुनून बचपन से ही था। जो बचपन मे दिल्ली के उत्तमनगर में ही पले और बढ़े। उनक हाइस्कूल विशाल भारती पब्लिक स्कूल था। उनका क्रिकेट का जोश और जुनून देख कर उनके पापा ने उन्हें वेस्ट दिल्ली क्रिकेट अकादमी में दाखिला दे दिया। राजकुमार शर्मा एक क्रिकेट कोच और रणजी ट्रॉफी प्लेयर थे उन्होंने विराट को ट्रेनिंग दी।

राजकुमार शर्मा ने विराट में एक नया सचिन तेंदुलकर देखा। विराट ट्रेनिंग सेशन खत्म हो जाता तब भी और क्रिकेट खेलने की इच्छा जाहिर करते थे। विराट जैसे क्रिकेट में बेहतर थे वैसे पढ़ाई में भी बेहतर थे। विराट का दिल्ली अंडर 15 में सिलेक्शन 2002 में हो गया था। विराट ने इसमें सबसे ज्यादा रन बनाए थे। विराट 5 इनिंग सबसे ज्यादा390 रन बनाए थे। 2004 में विराट का दिल्ली अंडर 17 में सेलेक्शन हो गया था। 2006 में विराट का सेलेक्शन इंडियन अंडर 19 में हुआ।अंडर 19 में बेहतरीन परफॉर्मेंस के बाद अंडर 19 के कोच लालचंद राजपूत ने उन्हें एक उभारता सितारा बताया। दिसंबर 2006 में विराट की पिता की मृत्यु होगयी थी। उसके दूसरे दिन विराट ने कर्नाटक के खिलाफ 90 रन बनाए थे और पाप को श्रद्धांजलि दी थी। इससे पता चलता है कि उनको क्रिकेट का कितना जुनून था। इस घटना के बाद विराट क्रिकेट में ज्यादा सीरियस हो गए थे। और इंडियन क्रिकेट टीम में बेहतरीन क्रिकेटर बनाना इस सपने की ओर ओ चल पड़े।
